”So I feel like this is the perfect time for a film like this. I feel like the film has become more important and more relevant today, which is a sad thing.” – Oscar Winner Taika Waititi in the Press Room
Shorter version of this post (DATE: 11/11/2019) because it was too long and a bit outdated.
Important note: I myself am not affected by the fires (and hopefully won’t be), except for the intense heat and smoke where I am. I am doing what I can by making this post.
DATE: 7/12/2019.
Hey, so Australia has been covered in devastating bushfires for about a month now with several states affected and while many are taken care of, more have started. Almost everywhere in the country was on fire (Australia is roughly the same size as the USA) And now that its now Summer, it’s getting worse and is bound to get worse. The NSW state premier cut fundings for firefighters, our own Prime Minister doesn’t care people and animals are dying/suffering, koala population (who are already critically endangered) is getting worse, general fauna and flora are devastated, and I don’t mean to fear-monger at all, but Sydney is experiencing a bushfire that will “take many weeks to put out” as I type this. And areas nearby are affected by the smoke, making it difficult to breathe.
So many homes have been lost, and the New Year has yet to greet us with even more destruction. While fires have been caused by idiots, the intense heat Summer gives us along with climate change is an important factor and our government refuses to even acknowledge it. I don’t mean to scare anyone, but given Australia’s track record with bushfires becoming more destructive, we can only expect the worst. The entire unique ecosystem is being affected.
Bushfires in Australia are common, however, bushfire season had come too early, and human civilisation has made the environment worse over the many years,(it’s only the first month of Summer, with the bushfires beginning at late Spring).
TLDR; Australia’s had a country-spread fire, and many areas are still affected with new, growing bushfires which is bound to get even worse in the New Year. Government doesn’t care.
NSW Rural Service fire map for updates.
It would mean the world to many of us here in this country to share this post around and support those affected. I’m scared for the animals, my family and my friends.

I REALLY fucking hate the stereotype that Canadians are so nice and passive and apologetic about everything. The stereotype is more than just irksome to me; it’s damaging. It disregards the ugly realities of racism throughout the country, particularly towards Aboriginal people.
I have witnessed way too much racism in this country to find the “nice Canadian” stereotype cute. The number of missing and murdered Aboriginal women and girls in my city alone is horrifying. The abuse and flat-out hatred is grotesque.
Here in Canada, people are really good at not giving a shit about the well-being of another human being if that person happens to be Aboriginal. Here in Canada, people are so well-armed with their assumptions and stereotypes that they can’t even bother to see Aboriginal people as HUMAN.
So no. Canada is not a magical land where everyone loves each other and says sorry constantly. That stereotype is insulting to every Aboriginal woman who is assaulted, goes missing, and/or is murdered. It’s insulting to the families of those missing and murdered women who seek justice and answers that they will never receive, simply because non-Aboriginal Canadians don’t give a damn.
Hey guys this is really important. Missing and murdered Indigenous Women and Girls is an actual problem, and it’s a huge problem here in Canada
trumpcare is back. we have to raise hell, or 32 million will lose their insurance, Medicaid will be killed, and all hell will break loose on elderly, disabled, low-income, students… that’s putting it kindly

i know a lot of you don’t give a fuck about latinos issues, but venezuela may or may not be entering in a TOTAL dictatorship tomorrow, and i’m so fucking angry, i’m so sad…i’m not venezuelan i’m argentinian and i’m so angry because we can’t do shit to help our venezuelan friends we can do nothing to help the people from venezuela we can just PRAY that everything will okay and venezuela can kick maduro’s ass out of their country, so CAN YOU [THE REST OF THE WORLD] JUST HELP US, LATINOAMERICA, PRAYING FOR VENEZUELA??? please, i’m losing my shit out here because i don’t have not a single way to contact my venezuelan friend and i’m fucking worried. sorry for swearing i’m really freaking out
Fifteen people died in riots yesterday (July 30, 207) alone. People are literally starving to death, not because they don’t have any money, but because there simply isn’t any food in supermarkets across the country. The shelves are completely bare - no food, no water, no toilet paper, no nothing.
This isn’t a political crisis anymore. It’s a humanitarian crisis. And it pisses me off that people don’t care about it as much as they would if this wasn’t happening in a Latinamerican country. You KNOW this wouldn’t have gotten this far if it was France, or the UK, or Canada. But because the people suffering are Latinos, the global community doesn’t give a shit, and that directly leads to people dying.
#listen I’m Colombian and the horror stories we hear about what’s going on at the border chill me to the bone#please do whatever you can to help Venezuela
do you know of anything those of us living in north america or elsewhere can do to help? if not that’s totally fine it’s not your responsibility at all, just wondering since you are a lot closer geographically to what’s happening than i am.

This Earth Day (April 22) we must remain humble and be reminded of the environmental fights we have already lost so that we can learn from our mistakes and fight for a better future for us, our children, and the world. These 5 environmental battles we have sadly already lost, or are very close to losing, serve as a reminder of why we need to keep fighting. LGBT concentration camps are Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov solution to the “gay problem”. This is real. This is happening right now
i usually don’t add onto posts but on the link above there is a petition against the camps and it is far from its goal, consider that, this is horrifying
i mean, let’s not kid ourselves, petitions will not do ANYTHING to change policy in russia
but at least be aware this is happening in 2017MAKE A DONATION!!!
…”The organization promotes human rights throughout Russia, and is trying to document the current crimes in Chechnya on its website, www.lgbtnet.org. The website is in both Russian and English, and there is a link to make donations.
The money donated helps get LGBT people out of Chechnya and into safe houses, until they are given asylum by Western countries. The LGBT Network also provides them with much-needed psychological and physical care.”

this image fucked me up. it used to be strategy of US military to burn our lodges during the wintertime so our ancestors couldn’t survive. in 1864 they attacked peaceful camps of my ancestors in Colorado, and in one attack alone burned over 70 lodges, which is estimated to be about 10% of the Cheyenne Nation’s housing at the time. i’m the seventh generation born since that attack and now we are seeing lodges burned all over again.
The ACLU received $24.1 million in online donations this weekend
- In a typical year, the American Civil Liberties Union gets about $4 million in online donations.
- But over this past weekend, the organization received $24.1 million from online donors, six times what it normally receives in a whole year.
- By the end of the night on Sunday, the group had received a total of $24,164,691 from 356,306 people over the weekend — many from people who had never donated to the ACLU before. Read more
Today, January 27, 2017, marks 72 years since the Soviet army liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp in Nazi occupied Poland. Today we remember the worst of humanity: genocide. Today we remember all the victims and survivors of the Holocaust. We remember the roughly 11 million people (1.1 at the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp) who were slaughtered simply for who they were and those who were imprisoned, and sometimes killed, for what they believed.
The Nazi regime murdered an estimated 6 million Jewish people, 2 million Romani people, 250,000 mentally and physically disabled non-Jewish/non-Romani people, and 9,000 non-Jewish/non-Romani gay men all in the furtherance of white supremacy and “racial purity.”
Today we remember them all and continue to fight against fascism, totalitarianism, and white supremacy so that this never again happens.

27 January: International Holocaust Remembrance Day
On this day we honour and remember the approximately 22 million innocent souls who fell victims to hate racism and prejudice crimes, nearly 7.5 million of which were slaughtered for being who they were.
- 6 million Jews (1.5 million of which were children)
- 1.5 million Romani
- 270 000 People with disabilities (be it physical or mental)
- 14 million civilians, caught in the crossfire, famine and ugliness of war from all over Europe.
This day is an important reminder of what once was and what should never be again.
May their rest be more peaceful than their life and may their memory be a blessing.
Never Forget.
